Passing Away

My grandfather passed away last Friday night at around 11plus. I've been attending his funeral till today when his body was taken to the Mandai Crematorium for cremation. It's a very difficult and hard time for my family members and relatives. I'll miss Ah Gong badly.

I remember how he would bring me and my siblings when we were young to the hill behind his home to a playground to play, sometimes he would buy ice-cream for us as well.

There was once when i was scolded by my mom and was crying, my grandpa not being the very expressive type showed his love and care by telling me to stop crying. That was the first time and last time i heard him say those words: "Mai hao" (meaning don't cry in his dialect).

Yesterday evening during the memorial service, my dad gave an eulogy about Ah Gong telling of how he first met his father-in-law, his first impression of him etc. followed by my uncle who shared of how Ah Gong loved and cared for his children despite being the non-verbal type when it comes to showing love and concern.

Ah Gong has gone home to the Father's arms.
